Victron MultiPlus-II GX 48V/5000VA/70A-50A
The MultiPlus-II GX is a powerful DC-AC hybrid inverter/charger with a pure sine wave output, integrated adaptive battery charger and ultra-fast power source transfer switch (battery/external AC source).
In addition to the MultiPlus II, the MultiPlus-II GX also includes a GX device and a display.
The display shows the parameters of the solar controller and inverter.
The same parameters can be accessed using a smartphone or other Wi-Fi enabled device.
The integrated GX device (similar to the Venus GX device, only integrated directly into the unit) includes:
MultiPlus-II GX combines MultiPlus and MultiGrid features
It has all the functions of the MultiPlus unit, plus the option to connect an external current sensor for the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions with self-consumption optimization.
It also has all the features of a MultiGrid unit with built-in Anti-Islanding protection on its AC input – reinforced protection to prevent unwanted supply to the distribution network in the event of a grid failure.
ESS: Energy Storage Systems
The MultiPlus-II GX is a key element in the Victron ESS system, providing the flexibility to combine with solar MPPT controllers or grid-tied PV inverters.
The MultiPlus-II GX, as the name suggests, is a combination of an inverter and a charger in one elegant design. Its range of features includes a pure sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, PowerAssist hybrid technology and other features for integration into various types of systems.
One AC input
The MultiPlus-II GX is equipped with one AC input for connection to the distribution network or, for example, a generator. If two AC inputs are required, then we choose the Quattro unit.
Two AC outputs
The MultiPlus-II GX is equipped with two AC outputs. The main AC1 output ensures uninterrupted power supply. For example, in UPS mode, the MultiPlus-II GX will take over power to connected appliances (in less than 20 milliseconds) in the event of a power outage or generator failure.
The second AC output is only functional when AC input (mains/generator) is available. A load that would quickly drain the batteries, such as a water heater, can therefore be connected to this output and will be powered only by the AC source.
Four-stage adaptive charger with two battery charging outputs.
The main DC output provides powerful full battery charging via an "adaptive charging" system. The software controls the three-stage automatic charging process to suit the battery condition and adds a fourth charging stage - trickle charging. In addition, the MultiPlus-II GX can charge a second battery using an independent charging output designed for e.g. generator starter batteries with a maximum charging current of 4 A. The MultiPlus-II GX is designed to charge all types of lead, alkaline and lithium batteries.
Virtually unlimited performance thanks to parallel operation
Up to 6 MultiPlus-II units can operate in parallel to achieve higher performance. When connected in parallel, only one GX unit is required.
Three-phase operation
Three units of the same type can be configured for three-phase operation with phasesnd shift. But that's not all, up to 6 parallel-connected units can form one phase. A three-phase system can therefore consist of up to 18 units with a total continuous output power of 43.2 kW/54 kVA and a charging power of 630 A. For a three-phase connection, only one GX unit is sufficient.
Unique features of PowerControl and PowerAssist
MultiPlus-II GX prevents overloading of a power-limited AC source, e.g. a current-limited electrical connection or a generator. If the input AC source is overloaded due to high consumption, the charging current to the battery will be automatically reduced in the first step (PowerControl). The energy for charging is transferred to power the AC appliances. In the second step, the input AC source is strengthened with current drawn from the battery (PowerAssist). The AC output receives energy from both the AC source and the battery (inverter).
Solar energy
You can have AC power available even in the event of a power outage. MuliPlus-II GX can be used in both off-grid (island) systems and in photovoltaic systems permanently connected to the distribution grid. MultiPlus-II is not equipped with an input for the PV array, but is intended to work with MPPT controllers (DC coupling systems) or grid inverters (AC coupling systems) located on the AC input and/or AC output. More here in the ESS description.
System configuration
- In the case of a simple UPS installation, the settings can be easily done in a few minutes using the DIP switches on the MultiPlus-II GX or the VE.Configure 3 software and a PC.
- Parallel and 3-phase applications can be configured using the VE.Bus Quick Configure software (up to 3 units) or more complex systems using the VE.Bus System Configurator software (above 3 units) and a PC.
- Off-grid and hybrid PV installations to support self-consumption and greater energy independence, which include grid-connected inverters and/or solar MPPT chargers, can be configured using the VE.Configure 3 software using the relevant wizards (specialized functions for specific applications).
- MultiPlus-II GX has several programmable relays and auxiliary contacts for a variety of additional functions.
- You can download the basic VE.Configure 3 and other configuration software for free on the manufacturer's website.
For the above software you will need a PC communication interface MK3-USB .
Remote monitoring and system configuration
Monitor and control your system locally or remotely over the internet from anywhere in the world using the free VRM app and free VRM portal: https://vrm.victronenergy.com/landingpage
Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop or computer for various operating systems. The GX device is integrated into this unit, so there is no need to purchase a Venus GX or Color Control GX unit.

The MultiPlus-II offers many operating options and is able to provide solutions to a wide range of user requirements. Here are some of the most common operating modes:
1. Basic installation of the MultiPlus-II GX unit with an external digital multifunction panel (optional). Designed for systems where the network is not always available (typically caravans, boats), UPS mode.

2. Basic installation of the MultiPlus-II GX unit with digital multifunction panel (optional). Designed for systems where the network is not always available (typically caravans, boats), UPS mode.

3. Concept of a hybrid solar system ESS (Energy Storage System). DC-coupling concept using an MPPT solar controller with non-backup consumers placed outside the MultiPlus-II GX and using a current sensor.

4. Hybrid solar system concept ESS (Energy Storage System). AC coupling concept using a grid-connected PV inverter located on AC out-1 (Fronius inverters only). The appliances on AC out-1 are powered primarily from photovoltaics and/or batteries, and in the event of a lack of this energy or inverter overload, also from the grid.
