XtendLan MTB-LR40C41
SFP+ module for 10Gbit Ethernet. LC duplex connector. Wavelength 1410 nm. Allows the use of CWDM. Any other wavelength from the CWDM grid 1270nm-1450nm can be ordered. Range 10km on a common single-mode fiber. When performing chromatic compensation of the fiber, 30-40km can be achieved, see description.
Conversion 10Gigabit SFP+ module. Standard 1000Base-LR, IEEE802.3ae, 10Gbit/s. Duplex LC connector, for singlemode fibers. Expands/converts ports of switches and converters with SFP+ slot. Economical thanks to the use of DFB laser in the transmitter. Support for most manufacturers (Cisco, Dell, Planet, ...)
Modules of this series are produced in 4 wavelengths with a step of 20nm, 1270-1450nm (O band). They can also be combined with modules in the 1490-1620nm band (E, S, C, L bands).
BASIC SPECIFICATIONS
Module type: SFP+
Connector: LC duplex
Wavelength: 1410 nm
Fiber type: Singlemode
Connection range: 10/40 km
Transmission margin: 14 dB
Sensitivity: -16 dBm
Transfer rate: 10.3 Gbps
Please note the range limitations of single mode optical fiber, which Ethernet communication has for speeds of 10Gbps and faster:
If the wavelength used is greater than 1330nm and the distance is greater than 10km, modules with DFB transmitters cannot be used without performing chromatic dispersion compensation. This limitation also applies to this module. Its power margin allows its use up to 40km, but the chromatic dispersion of the fiber makes this impossible. However, a module with a power margin of 14dB is advantageous if the route is up to 10km and some attenuation is performed in it, typically by branching in a decolorizer, splitter, etc.
Chromatic dispersion is a property of single mode fiber (type G.652) and its compensation can be performed using special chromatic compensators.
If the use of wavelengths above 1330nm cannot be avoided, it is more economical than installing chromatic compensators (i.e. in 2016) to use modules with an EML type transmitter (which are automatically modules for 1470-1610nm with 14dB and more - in our offer, e.g. XL-MTB-LR40C55, XL-MTB-LR80C55).
Technically, the chromatic tolerance for EML transmitters is calculated to be around 1600ps/nm while for DFB only 200ps/nm is allowed.
In practice, we have noted that for installations between 10km-30km, modules can also be used in many cases (i.e. without chromatic compensation) thanks to slightly better fiber properties than used in calculations, however, this is done at the user's risk and with their own knowledge!
