123electric BMS123SM-EM
Extended module for the BMS123 system. Comes with Molex connectors and cables.
The module adds the following features:
- 4 configurable relays - turn on relays at time or conditions
- 2 individual CAN bus connections
- Elcon/TC Charger control via CAN bus interface
- Setting up BMS transmission on the CAN bus
- Compatible with EV charging stations using the J1772/IEC 62196 protocol - adaptive charging. The extended module limits the charging current to the maximum current of the charging station/vehicle.
- Controls two analog gauges
- Insulation detection - measure the insulation resistance between the power supply and the isolated battery module
Use a twisted pair wire to connect the extended module to the OUT of the BMS123 Smart board. There is no polarity.
Charging electric cars
Electric vehicles can be charged at charging stations using the J1772 protocol. The extended module communicates with the charging station and obtains the maximum allowed current. This offered current is used.
Insulation detection function
Battery modules using high voltage must be isolated from the electronic power supply like a 12V battery. It is important to constantly measure this insulation resistance between the high voltage unit that the BMS controls and the power supply of this extended module. This can be done using insulation detection.
Connecting to a PC
The extended module is equipped with a USB port for connecting PC-based devices, not only in the vehicle.
The software for the extended module consists of various functions:
Tracking
The most important data is displayed, such as the total module voltage, state of charge and voltage of individual cells.
BMS data
Global BMS settings such as minimum cell voltage, maximum cell voltage and temperatures need to be configured. Also all BMS data can be sent to the CAN bus.
NOTE: The BMS DOES NOT use the minimum voltage, maximum voltage, minimum temperature, and maximum temperature configured by the Bluetooth module.
CAN BUS messages
The most important BMS data such as voltages, temperatures, settings and status can be sent on the CAN bus. Select the desired CAN bus network (1 or 2) and fill in the start message ID. The BMS will send 8 different CAN bus messages. The first one at the start address (N), the second one at N+1, etc.
Configurable relays
Four relays can be independently configured for day of week, hysteresis or Boolean logic. There is also an option for an “invert output” relay
