The ATA 191 Analog Telephone Adapter converts a traditional telephone or fax device into an IP device. It allows regular analog telephones to operate on Ethernet-based telephone networks. The ATA 191 supports two voice ports, each with an independent telephone number. It also has one RJ-45 10/100Base-T data port.

The ATA 191 is the preferred solution for customers connecting to enterprise networks, small offices, or unified communications as a service from the cloud. It has two standard FXS ports that can be independently configured as two Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) registrations.

SIP is an IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standard for real-time calling and conferencing over Internet Protocol (IP). It is used to establish, maintain, and terminate multimedia sessions or calls between two or more endpoints.

The ATA 191 is designed to work with Cisco call management systems (CUCM, CME).
