In addition to managing the MAC and PHY functions of the Ethernet layer, the controller manages the operation of PCI Express data tables at its switching (link) and physical/logical layers. Using hardware acceleration, the controller offloads tasks such as TCP/UDP/IP checksum calculations and TCP parsing from the host. The adapter supports Intel PRO Smart Install and the new Intel PROSet for Microsoft Device Manager, which simplifies installation and management.
